I love the holidays! There’s just something magical about everything this time of year, Christmas trees, lights, Christmas carols, gift giving, and who can forget all the great food!! Delicious, tempting food is all around us this time of year, which is great for your taste buds, but of course not so great for your waistline and weight loss goals.
So, how do you get through the holiday season without over-indulging and feeling like a stuffed turkey by new year? Here are a few simple tips, which you may already know but could use a refresher on, to get you through the next few weeks:
1) Don’t starve yourself so you can over-indulge on drinks and desert!
We’ve all done this at some point, but it just doesn’t work. Showing up hungry to a party means that you will want to eat everything in sight! If you eat healthy well balanced meals throughout the day you will eat much less of the scrumptious appetizers and desserts at the party.
2) Stick to your clean eating plan.
Your body will be much more forgiving of a little over-indulging if you’re still giving it the nourishment it needs throughout the day. Always remember that when your body is under excess stress it tends to hold on to excess fat.
3) Limit alcohol consumption.
This is a tough one for everyone, but just remember that your body sees alcohol as a toxin and needs to deal with removing that toxin before it can think about burning fat. It’s also easy to forget that you are drinking an awful lot of calories from sugar, and sugar has a sneaky way of showing up around your waistline quickly.
4) Rev up your workout routines.
This is not the time of year to be texting during your workout. Have a plan of action when you get to the gym and push yourself hard. This means no running on the treadmill at a steady pace or barely breaking a sweat doing the machine circuit!
