Guess what? It’s summer!
That means that those impromptu summer day trips, weekend excursions and that week long trip to Europe you planned in the winter are finally here. It’s easy to fall into the trap of high calorie, indulgent meals while we’re on vacation, but we’re here to tell you that it IS possible to indulge AND still reach your goals. With a little bit of research and planning, you’ll be continuing down that road of health and fitness and keeping your regime strong.
1. Do some research on the grocery situation!
Where are you headed to and how are you getting there? What kind of food is available on transit and at your final destination? Do you have access to grocery stores? If so – what kind of quality food do they carry? Planning goes a long way and can help you stay in check while you’re away. Look into what fresh fruits and veggies are available to you, and if you’ve got limited kitchen access – try to chose items that are easy to prepare or require no preparation at all.
2. Don’t skip breakfast!
Are you going away for an extended period of time? Bring your blender with you to make healthy shakes – that way you can bring some protein powder, and healthy add-ons with you to ensure you’re still getting maximum nutrition on vaca. Ground flax, hemp seeds, chia seeds, and protein powder are great add-ons to take with you that don’t take up too much space in your bag. You’ll thank yourself for fueling appropriately, and you’ll be less likely to indulge in a grab-and-go option that might not be the best choice.
3. Sleep is your friend!
Do not underestimate the power of sleep, my friends. Adequate sleep helps your immune system stay strong and promotes recovery. On vacation, it’s easy to let time get away from you, but 7 to 8 hours of sleep each night while you’re away will make a big difference on your energy levels and ability to spring back to it when you return home.
4. Stay Active!
Does your hotel have a fitness facility? What about a pool? If so – try to plan some workouts you can do in the hotel gym ahead of time. Mapping out your time away will help ensure you’re motivated to reach your goals. No gym? Just keep moving! Go for a run, see if there are hiking trails, long walks around the city, or any other fun and active activity you can engage in. Slothing around the beach can be a much needed break, but you want to keep your body moving.
5. Always hydrate!
Travelling is a surefire way to dehydrate. We want to make sure that even though we’re on vacation, we are still consuming enough water each day. Each morning, have a big glass of water before setting off on your adventures, and make sure to bring a water bottle along with you to refill throughout the day.
Now you’re equipped with 5 fool proof ways of keeping yourself on track while travelling. So what are you waiting for? Get out there!
Yours in health,
Daniela
