The holidays are hectic, and family definitely takes priority most days. This is a great opportunity to stay fit and healthy with your family by making your workout routine a family affair!
1) Hit the hills and go sledding! Don’t let your kids have all the fun! Sledding is loads of fun and can be a great workout if you intend it to be. Go up and down the hill continuously with your kids, race them to the top of the hill, and even pull your kids back up the hills. You’ll be sweating in no time!
2) Family Bootcamp! Who says bootcamp is just for you? Pick 4-6 exercises that the whole family can do. Our 3-year-old son loves imitating us while we work out and he has a great time!! Simple exercises that can be made very simple and done in a silly way for kids but intensified for you.. Here’s an example:
- Pushups: simple version for your kids or whatever they consider a pushupJ & One legged pushups or Burpies w/ pushup for you and your partner. You can even put your kids on your back while you do pushups.
- Squat: simple squats for your kids or jump squats for the whole family!
- Jumps: Choose objects to jump over in a lineup formation and everyone has to jump up as high as possible over each object
- Plank – have your kids jump over your legs, or try to crawl under you as you hold plank.
- Lunges – have your kids do basic lunges, as you do jump lunges or walking lunges
- Animal Imitation: Jump like a frog, crawl like a reptile, sumo squat like an ape, etc…Let your kids come up with some of these!
Set a timer to switch every 30-45 sec. Let your kids go at their own pace or keep up, whatever means they’re having fun. Just make sure that you are keeping your heart rate up and pushing yourself.
3) Relay race in the snow! You can be really creative with this one too. Set some boundaries with trees and partner up if you can. Have someone perform an exercise on the spot as the other runs to a tree and back, then switch.
Be creative, and let your kids participate in the exercise creation, if they are school age then they’ll likely have some great ideas from gym time. Most importantly have fun! Fun and laughter helps you distress!
On behalf of the Best Body Bootcamp Team, we would like to wish you all the very best Christmas and Holiday Season, and wish you all love, health and happiness to you and your family in the coming year!
See you all back in the New Year!
